Camp went very well this year and I'm sad that it's over already! I love, love, love being out in the quiet country with lots of green grass, green trees and blue skies. I love, love, love getting to see all the friends I only see once a year during the two weeks of camp. I love, love, love watching my "campers" grow and change every year.
Every year has it's own funny stories and great memories and this year was no exception.
Claire, Melissa's 8 year old daughter, had a meltdown after the fireworks display lasted "only 15 minutes" instead of "an hour like they usually do!". Once back at the house, Shelby and I were quietly folding some laundry behind her when Melissa gave Claire an excellent mom-lecture on her attitude not honoring anyone and how she should be more grateful, etc. At the end she said, "And this behavior will not ever happen again, will it??!" To which Claire thought for a split second and replied, "Perhaps." Shelby and I were trying not to laugh out loud! Mel said, "What??" and Claire said, "I don't know...it's not like I'm never gonna fuss again..." ! At least she was being honest! :}
During the first week, when I only had three kiddos, we went down at ate dinner at camp several times. One evening, Melissa had come up to the house to get something and Evan asked if he could ride down to camp with her. Tug, of course, then asked if he could ride with her too, which since it's a 30 second drive, I didn't mind at all, but just to tease him I said, "What?! You're going to leave me to drive down to camp ALL BY MYSELF??!" Tug, with a very solomn expression, looked at me and said, "God will be with you." ! Not much you can say to that! Lol. :)
Friday night after Girls Week, the girl counselors and staff went out to eat at the Maccaroni Grill. Towards the end I got up to go to the restroom. I noticed that the signs on the doors were in Italian first and English below in letters about 4 in. tall - so pretty obvious. I walked into the Women's restroom, noted that just one stall was occupied and started to walk into a different one. I realized that the person in the one occupied stall was talking on a cell phone and started to wonder why in the world anyone would talk on the phone in a public restroom (?!) which is when I realized that the voice was unusually deep for a girl and that it was, in fact, a guy!! I panicked for a second thinking maybe I was the one in the wrong restroom as I stood inside the stall wondering what to do next. The guy then walked out of the restroom, still on the phone, and a second later I heard a girl cracking up laughing. As she walked in, I opened the stall door and peeked out to see one of the couselors from camp walking in, still laughing. She said she had opened the door just as the guy was walking out. They looked at eachother, surprised, and then both looked at the sign on the door, at which the guy looked absolutely mortified! Lol! I'm just glad it was him and not me in the wrong place! And I have to say, that's what he gets for talking on the phone and not paying close enough attention to where he was going! :}
I'm sure there are other stories I am forgetting and maybe I'll post them later, mostly so I will remember them. As for pictures and details, there were too many to put here in my blog, so I am once again posting a link to my facebook photo album - enjoy! :)
